Approvals

To make sure that you and your horse receive the best from your riding school or livery yard, choose one approved by the BHS.

BHS approved riding schools and liveries comply with the latest health and safety guidelines. They are insured against public liability, and take excellent care of the horses and ponies. Unannounced yearly inspections ensure that standards are kept high.

At present, livery yards do not need to be licensed. This could mean that even basic standards are not always met. However, this is likely to change in the future. Livery Yard Licensing is currently being considered as part of the new Animal Welfare Bill.

If you have an establishment, and are interested in joining the BHS Approvals Scheme, please send an A4 SAE, with two first class stamps, to The Approvals Office, The British Horse Society, Stoneleigh Deer Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2XZ.
